Dewy lips, red “hot” lips, kissable lips…lips have always been linked to sensuality and youth. With plump lips now in fashion, what are your options if you want fuller lips? And what can you do to enhance thin lips, eliminate those pesky “pucker” lines, or stop that stern librarian frown?

The good news is that you now have some great options. Three effective methods are available for lip augmentation or lip enhancement injectables, implants, or a surgical lift.

Injectables:  We use Juvederm, Perlane, and Restylane to plump up lips.  All three are hylauronic acids which are safe and effective.  After consultation with Dr. Collini, you can decide on the best choice for “plumping” up your lips and achieving the look you want. Often the injectable is put in the “vermillion border” – the border between the lip and surrounding skin – rather than the body of the lips themselves. This makes the lips roll up and outward and makes them appear larger.  Another plus– this method diminishes or softens those pesky vertical lines caused by aging or smoking.  The results are natural looking and lovely.  There may some initial swelling which quickly diminishes.  The effect lasts for about six months.

Implants:  This is the very best solution for permanent fuller lips.  We use “Perma Lips” and the results are nothing short of spectacular.  You will need a consultation with Dr. Collini to determine the best size implant to achieve your goals.  The implants are then inserted under local anesthesia; the procedure takes under an hour.  Many patients choose implants after trying an injectable, loving the look, and wanting to make it permanent.  The procedure will cause some initial swelling and soreness, and there can be some bruising.  But beautiful full lips with implants are forever.

Surgical Lifts:  This is an excellent choice for women whose smile doesn’t show much of their teeth and/or for older women who are experiencing “sag” in the lip due to aging or collagen loss.  Dr. Collini performs a “lip lift” by making an incision under the nose and the lip is lifted by skin excision.  This procedure shortens the distance between the nose and the lip, rolling out the outer edge of the upper lip, and exposing more “surface area” of the lip.  This is called a lip “enhancement” rather than an augmentation.

Another form of lip enhancement is a “grin lift.”  This procedure lifts the corners of the upper lip and is a good option for patients whose lips have turned “downward” due to age.  A “grin lift” turns a frown into a smile…and has a huge impact on your self-image and the way others see you.  Either of these minor surgeries can be done under intravenous sedation and local anesthesia and takes less than an hour.

Dr. Collini performs lip augmentation or enhancement right in the Shavertown office or in the privacy and comfort of our state-of-the-are surgery center.  You go home immediately after the procedure.
