What is breast lift?
A breast lift or mastopexy entails lifting the breast or tightening the breast by eliminating some of the loose skin and giving them a perkier appearance. A breast augmentation will make your breasts bigger. The two procedures can be performed separately, or simultaneously. These differences will be discussed at the time of consultation.
Am I a candidate for breast lift?
You may be considered a good candidate if your answer is yes to any of the following questions:
- Do you have saggy breasts or nipples that may point downward?
- Due to pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight loss, or normal aging, have your breasts drastically changed?
- Do you have asymmetrical or misshapen breasts?
What are the results?
A breast uplift surgery can truly be life-changing by restoring natural-looking, youthful breasts. A breast lift changes your breast shape and position of your breasts. There is no breast tissue removed, but there is skin removed. This may alter your bra size slightly depending on the amount of skin removed. Most patients report wearing the same bra size but their breasts look so much better. Remember skin “fills your bra.”
What can I expect?
The mastopexy procedure itself provides immediate results and a short “down time.” It involves removing stretched or excess skin and relocating the nipple-areola complex into a more natural position, making the breast look perky and youthful again. A mastopexy does leave visible scars, but most women feel having beautifully contoured breasts are worth the tradeoff. The procedure only takes two to three hours to perform, and the results can provide an uplift not only for the breasts but for a woman’s deepest feelings.
What are my up-lift options?
There are three types of breast lifts (mastopexies): the wise pattern or anchor lift, the periareolar or donut lift, or the vertical or lollipop lift. Dr. Collini takes the lead and determines which type of lift is needed for the desired result.
The wise pattern or anchor-shaped scar lift is done when women have too much skin for a
vertical lift. This lift has a longer scar but gives the best results.
- The periareolar scar is best for minimal moves of the areola/nipple or a reduction in the size of the areola.
- This lift does not affect the overall shape of the breast much, it only repositions the nipple/areola.
- The vertical lift (lollipop) has a scar around the areola and straight down the breast. The mastopexy lifts and narrows the breast.
“A mastopexy or a “breast uplift” is a surgical procedure performed on drooping breasts; it is designed to remove excess, sagging breast skin and move the nipple-areola complex upward to a more pleasing position. The result is a new breast contour that is youthful and perky.”
